Anna Szmatola was born on 8 November 1988 in Katowice. She is a graduate of the Jadwiga Kaliszewska Upper Level School of Music in Poznan. She completed the Bachelor's studies at the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan (prof. Stanislaw Pokorski and MusD Tomasz Lisiecki cello class). She continued the 2nd cycle studies at the Felix Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, where at the class Prof. Andrzej Bauer and D.A. Bartosz Koziak she obtained the Master's degree in cello studies.
She is a laureate of 1st and 2nd prizes at international solo and chamber competitions among others in Kiev (2011), Montalto Ligure (2011), Warsaw (2011), Neapol (2010), San Bartolomeo al Mare (2009).
She has improved her skills at master music courses in Zagan, Lancut, Radziejowice, having an opportunity to work with such professors as: Kazimierz Michalik, Andrzej Bauer, Bartosz Koziak. She is a scholarship holder of the "Young Poland" programme, Witold Lutoslawki Association and Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding achievements in science and artistic successes.
She has performed solo and with chamber groups at festivals in Europe and Asia.
Cooperation with Sepia Ensemble helps her develop a skills to perform contemporary music.
